Void Lantern, 2024

Description: The work is composed of a wooden pre-made lantern available at Michael's that's been painted black, the fake candle inside works and can be activated by flipping a switch on the underside of the base.

Meaning: My goal was for the piece to represent the concept of The Void. The Void is a concept I envisioned as the opposite of The Full, in contrast to The Full which I see as a very intangible location/space, I see The Void as something present everywhere in the world, ranging from the spaces under or behind furniture to a possibility for what the Afterlife may be. The pieces also explore concepts relating to duality or yin and yang.
