Cardinals at Night, 2021

Cardinals at Night, 2021.JPG

Description: Starting from the left, a series of plastic plants cover the bottom edge of the canvas, in the one big open area a wooden birdhouse is affixed to the canvas. In the top left corner is a plastic bowl. The main body of the canvas is covered in a mix of blue and yellow acrylic with glitter mixed into it. Attached to one of the fake plants, the bowl, the birdhouse, and two spots on the canvas are five fake cardinals.

Meaning: This piece is inspired by a trip I took to see van Gogh: The Immersive Experience in Washington D.C. The piece was inspired by The Starry Night but I wanted to add a surreal element by placing the cardinals in a way that violate the intended picture plane. Nevertheless, the meaning of the piece is for the viewer to decide.

Medium: Acrylic, bowl, fake cardinals, fake plants, glitter, gorilla glue, and wood on canvas
