Cycle 2024, No. 14: The Nine Circles of Hell, 2024

Description: The board is painted with black acrylic, at the top are a series of three metal rings, each one has three separate 'layers' that get smaller as they get closer to the center. Each ring corresponds to one of the nine circles of Hell as discussed by Dante in Inferno.
Starting with the first set of circles, the first circle contains the unbaptised and virtuous pagans, is represented by a layer of grey acrylic. The second circle contains the lustful, who are blown about by an unending gale, is represented by a layer of white acrylic whose brushstrokes are still visible. The third circle contains the gluttonous, who wallow in a putrid pit of slush, is represented by a layer of brown acrylic.
Moving to the second set of circles, the fourth circle contains the greedy, who joust each other using weights, is represented by a layer of red acrylic. The fifth layer contains the wrathful, who fight each other among the slime of the river Styx, is represented by a layer of brown acrylic. The sixth layer contains the heretics, who are burning within flaming tombs, is represented by a layer of orange acrylic.
Moving to the third and final set of circles, the seventh circle contains the violent, and is split into three different rings. The first ring contains people who murdered or were tyrants and is represented by a section of red acrylic that covers one third of the total space of the ring, the second ring contains people who committed suicide and thus perpetuated violence against the self is represented by a section of brown acrylic that covers the second third of the ring, and the third ring contains people who perpetuated violence against God, Art, and Nature is represented by a layer of orange acrylic that covers the final third of the ring.
Similar to the seventh circle, the eighth circle, which contains the fraudulent, is split into ten sections; nine of these sections are represented in the piece. The first section of the eighth circle contains the panderers and seducers who are whipped by demons for eternity, this is represented by a section of red acrylic. The second section of the eighth circle contains the flatterers who are steeped in excrement, this is represented by a section of brown acrylic. The third section of the eighth circle contains the simoniacs who are placed in cylindrical tombs with a fire at their feet, is represented by a section of orange acrylic. The fourth section of the eight circle contains the sorcerers who have their heads on backwards and are forced to walk forward for eternity, this layer is not represented. The fifth section of the eighth circle contains the barrators who are immersed in boiling pitch, this is represented by a section of black acrylic. The sixth section of the eighth circle contains the hypocrites who are weighed down by brilliantly gilded lead robes, this is represented by a section of gold acrylic. The seventh section of the eighth circle contains the thieves who are bitten by reptiles for eternity, this is represented by a section of green acrylic. The eighth section of the eighth circle contains fraudulent advisors or counselors who are hidden inside individual fires, this is represented by a section of orange acrylic. The ninth section of the eighth circle contains the sowers of discord who are sliced apart by a demon for eternity, this is represented by a section of red acrylic. The tenth and final section of the eight circle contains the falsifiers who are afflicted with different types of conditions and diseases, this is represented by a section of brown acrylic.
The ninth and final circle and the center of the piece contains the treacherous, who are immersed in a gigantic frozen lake depending on the severity of their treachery, is represented by a light blue acrylic with blue crystal-like pieces placed in the center.
